Juventus coach Luigi Del Neri says his team deserved to take a two-goal lead into the second leg of their Europa League Third Round qualifier against Shamrock Rovers.

The tactician also believes the side showed signs they have put last season behind them, and moved on.

"Tonight, we obtained succes in a match that counted," Del Neri told Juventus Channel post-match. "They victory is deserved and important because it gives us the strength to continue to keep on working hard.

"We need to take only one step at a time, taking it week by week, without getting too far ahead of ourselves. At this time, we need to improve upon our physical conditioning, which cannot be perfect after having a month off.

The former Sampdoria boss was also pleased with the efforts of Amauri, who had a disappointing last season.

"He scored two goals, hit the post on one occasion, and gave us a target up front," he continued. "I am happy for him and the squad.

"[Defenders Giorgio] Chiellini and [Leonardo] Bonucci also did well, as they took on lively forwards, who were in good condition.

"The playing group is motivated and is leaving whatever happened last season behind them," concluded the coach.
